It’s February, the season for love. But instead of focusing on culture’s view of love, I want to point you to Christ, the One who loves our souls.

This Man doesn’t care if you put on makeup in the morning or gained an extra pound. He only cares that it’s another day to keep loving you. He has a sacrificial love for you that will never fail.

But since I think we’ve established how much God loves you, now’s the time to switch gears to how we love God.

Because the Bible never tells us that Christ loves us, and that’s the end of the story. No, He wants you to love Him back, love Him always, and love Him most.

Religion Versus Love

“Religious” people say the prayers, talk the talk, do the walk, go to church, act churchy, and fool even the best of believers. But they don’t have a personal love for God (Revelation 3:16).

They get high positions in churches, have many friends, trick neighbors, read their Bibles every morning, and walk the dog while listening to Gospel music.

But they don’t love God.

They go on mission trips to teach the love of God without having a personal relationship with Him. They’re aimless. They’re empty.

1 Corinthians 13:1–3 reminds us that without love, we are nothing.

Being religious, wanting God, wanting to go to Heaven, wanting to be a good person—none of it matters unless we love Him.

God-plus-us is the greatest love story ever to be told. It’s a story of redemption, truth, and honor. He is our God and King, and we—the church of true believers—are His bride.

Switching the Narrative

The real question isn’t “Does God love me?” any longer. It’s actually “Do you love God?”

Well, do you?

Sometimes it’s hard to admit that we don’t love God, especially for those of us who grew up in church and assume we have to be Christians. It’s a tricky answer if you desire eternal life without commitment. It’s terrifying for those who don’t see eye-to-eye with the designer but want His love, regardless.

To love God can be vastly impossible, at least in human terms. It means laying aside ourselves, picking up our crosses, and dragging those crosses up hills and through dark valleys. We have to fix our eyes on God and refuse to glance at the roiling waves (Matthew 14:22–33).

It means desiring God over everything and anything else.

He is Our Destiny

So, here’s that question again. Do you love God?

Are you sacrificing everything to follow Him?

Are you telling your friends about His goodness, faithfulness, and compassion? Are you offering Him the spotlight? Are you chasing Him with your whole heart?

If the answer is no, please don’t go any further without giving your life to Him. It is worth it.

Stepping out of your comfort zone to comfort another is life-sustaining. Giving God your time is restful. Handing over your back-breaking worries is strengthening.

He stands at the door and knocks (Revelation 3:20). He waits for you to come home (Luke 5:11–32). He is building a home for you in Heaven (John 14:3).

All He asks is that you’ll love Him back.

If you’ve never committed everything you are to Christ but want to, be sure to get into a Bible and also check out these two posts: This Is How We Know What Love Is from Love His People and The Gospel Message (My Most Important Post) by Centsible Teens. If you can, find a Christian friend to walk you through it. No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, God is willing to transform you into a new creation.
